They are effective murder machines from Day 1 till the end of the game with zero points invested. And, personally, I started doing much better in sieges when I switched to bows, probably because I could take out the enemy archers quicker thanks to the fast reloading.

If you want to play a horse archer then even the Masterwork Light Crossbow is rather lacking compared to the stronger bows due to its slow reload and low damage compared to heavier crossbows. Bows on the other hand start off weak but become much more powerful as you build up your Power Draw. IIRC, to have maximum accuracy with a bow you also want 3 more Power Draw than what the bow requires while you have no such worries with a crossbow.īasically, crossbows start off strong and require little training to use effectively which, IMO, is rather double-edged since crossbows also don't benefit from building up anything other than Crossbow Proficiency. I didn't notice much of a difference in accuracy, although I used both weapons as medium-range weapons so crossbows might be better for long-range sniping. Bows start doing good damage at around Power Draw 4 and only get better from there while also being quick firing.

Crossbows have much higher damage than bows until you build up Power Draw but are slow firing.
